Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program *

For High School Seniors

The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program (Scholarship) is a federally funded competitive program designed to promote student excellence and achievement. These scholarships are awarded solely on the basis of academic merit to recognize students who show promise of continued academic excellence. Selected students must enroll in and attend a United States institution of higher education full-time beginning in the fall term of the award year. The Robert C Byrd Honors Scholarship Program is supported entirely by federal funding and is subject to federal budget appropriations. Federal funding may affect both new and renewal awards if funding authorization is reduced or not approved for the fiscal year. Applications for the 2010-11 academic year will be available in January 2010.

New Participants

During the 2009-10 academic year, scholarship recipients will receive up to $1,500 to attend an accredited U.S. Postsecondary institution. Depending on the availability of federal funding, the scholarships may be renewed up to four years. For more information on the Byrd Scholarship Program, please see:

Renewal Participants

Nothing is required for renewal students. A Renewal Postcard will be sent to all continuing students once their college verifies full-time enrollment and satisfactory academic progress. Please make sure the Commission has your current mailing address, phone number, email address and school changes.
